Summary: A little disappointed. After dining here on many occasions, I was looking forward to seeing what the hotel had to offer. I was in room 6. It is positioned facing the road. It was noisy with single glazed windows. The road is very busy. The hotel is also positioned on a bend in the road, so lots of traffic builds up and makes noise accelerating when driving off. This includes loud buses, lorries and motorbikes. The room is also immediately above access to the cellar / stores and you can expect lots of deliveries to start arriving from 6am. There was a very strange experience on the last night. Someone parked there and then entered the hotel at about 5am (no reception). They were trying to be discrete, but walked about the hotel for half an hour occasionally coughing and make the floorboards creak (a big issue throughout the hotel). The room is also next to the recycling collection point and it’s noisily collected early in the morning. The walls in the room could be made of paper. You can hear everything from the rooms next door. The room is also positioned immediately above a small function room for the pub / restaurant. Not a problem during my stay, but I’d imagine it could be for others. The décor in the room has been thoughtfully done, but it’s tired. The wallpaper on the ceiling was falling away in many places. The carpets are stained. Lovely staff and some nice touches in the room, such as the freshly baked shortbread each day. The restaurant food was good, but not a
