Summary: This property is located just outside Central Leeds. Transport into Central Leeds is easy, on street parking is also easy. The neighbourhood seems to be pretty run down although despite being on a main road was very quiet at night. The property has been recently renovated to a very high standard with good quality fittings and a lot of "homely" additions (such as artificial pot plants, ornaments, toiletries, towels etc.). Each room has its own electronic access code. The rooms are very spacious with separate seating and each has en-suite facilities. The property is set over three floors and the main entrance is about 600mm from the ground with two very narrow steps - this house is not for people with mobility issues. The house has a new fire alarm system and the doors are fire rated. The windows and doors whilst new are not in the same league as the rest of the house. Overall, the actual facilities were exceptionally good. The reason for the 2-star review? Two significant issues... 1. There are only two exits from the building. One is controlled by an electronic (internet enabled) lock - more about this later, the other is a pair of French doors at basement level. These two doors are NOT secure (the "fixed" door does not lock into the frame) and it would only take 2 people about 5 second to overcome the two locking bolts securing the doors. They are secluded behind fencing and are out of sight. In short, we did not leave anything of value in the house. The doors are also locked inside by a key and as a means of escape should have a thumb turn lock. 2. The front door is locked and unlocked by an internet accessed electric locking device. This did not work when we got there so we had to contact the agent to arrange access to the "proper" key. On one night we could not lock the door so had to use the key outside and come back into the house via the French doors. It also became obvious that there was no way of unlocking the door from the inside. The issue here is that this is the main fire escape so in the event of a fire you are locked in. The only other way out is via the basement and the French doors mentioned above - the route is past the kitchen and through the living room - both areas being relatively high risk in terms of fire. In short, if the power is off - the lock won't work, if the internet is off - the lock won't work, if your phone is out of battery / data / signal - the lock won't work.
